MEET LISA FRIEND

Club Sandwich 30

The newest and youngest face around MPL belongs to Lisa Friend, who has worked for the company for almost a year as secretarial assistant to Brenda Jenkins and Stephen Shrimpton.
Born in 1963 in Pembury, Kent, Lisa spent the first ten years of her life in Tunbridge Wells. As one of two daughters of the BBC's foreign correspondent, Bob Friend, she spent much of her childhood abroad. The family first moved to Sydney, Australia, where they remained for four years. Lisa loved the relaxed, outdoor life of a sunny climate, and picked up an Australian accent which stayed with her until she returned to England years later. Her father's next posting was to Japan, as BBC Tokyo correspondent for five years. Lisa attended the American school there, but the crowded city life didn't appeal to her after Australia, and she spent her time longing to return to England.
After completing high school, Lisa headed back to the U.K. where she attended a secretarial school in Cambridge. Two years ago she moved to London, landing a job with a small, rather unexciting gemstone investment company, which she left after a short time. She did some 'temping' while she searched for the right permanent job. She came to MPL through an agency who had incorrectly briefed her about the company, so it came as rather a surprise to discover who her employers were! She was attracted by the friendly nature of the company, and was fascinated to be working for Paul and Linda, whose music so vividly captured the feeling of the summer of 1976 around the barbecues, when Wings were taking Australia by storm.

SUE'S LETTER

            • Hi there!
            • The filling for this summer SANDWICH is linked to the awards we wrote about last time, 'cos we thought it would be fun to show you some of the personalities who attended the ceremonies along with Paul and Linda. Hope you like it.
            • Although the filming has now ended on “Give My Regards to Broad Street”, the work has shifted to its "post-production" phase, which involves sound and editing work. It's set for release by 20th Century Fox sometime in 1984, but we have no fixed date yet... Speak ing of "Broad Street”, some of you caught a glimpse of Jeffrey Daniels of Shalamar wearing a "Broad Street" sweatshirt on the 1,000th edition of BBC's Top of the Pops. Naturally enough, I've been swamped with enquiries about the shirts, which I'm sorry to say, were made only for the film crew. But the good news is that, when the film's released, there will be merchandise for sale, so you will have to contain yourselves till then!
            • As many of you Funsters have noticed, this is the club's tenth anniversary, and we're looking to you for any nostalgic stories or pix for our next ish. So do send in any reminiscences you may have about Paul, Wings, or the club, and we'll select some for next time. But, as with our Gallery Corner entries, we're sorry not to be able to return anything to you, so don't send in things you want back.
            • After successful shows in New York, Paris and around Britain, it's now the turn of you living 'down under' to get a look at Linda's exhibition, which will be featured at the Barry Stern Gallery in Sydney from July 23 to August 12... After a small break at the end of filming, Paul's set to return to the studio to complete the new album, which we're all eagerly awaiting. Perhaps more on that subject next time, along with news of Buddy Holly Week activities once again.
            • Have a good summer.
            • 'til next time,
            Sue
